Program Self Assessment Tool for Homeless Shelters

SH/HIP has developed a program self-assessment tool for homeless service providers. We encourage staff in homeless shelters to use this tool to:

  • Review what is in place and what is not
  • List other efforts that can be made to strengthen your existing program.

The self-assessment is like an inventory of activities that homeless services can undertake to integrate HIV/AIDS services. Providers complete it like a checklist. Once completed, the checklist gives providers an opportunity to recognize those activities they have already put into place, and identify other activities they can consider implementing.

The self-assessment tool is divided by these categories of activity:

  • Policy and Protocol Development
  • On-site HIV/AIDS Prevention Services
  • Educational Materials
  • Client Education
  • Staff Education and Training Needs
  • Knowledge of Community Resources &Referral Capacity
