Emergency Shelter

Penelope’s Place, formerly Womansplace Crisis Center, is a residential program for individuals and families fleeing  life-threatening situation as a result of domestic and/or sexual violence. Located in a newly renovated 1890’s home in a confidential location in the greater Brockton area, Penelope's Place is complete with an updated kitchen, bathrooms, a handicapped accessible bath and a private yard for the young residents to play. Penelope’s Place offers housing for up to five families at a time.

Trained professionals help residents of Penelope’s Place to begin to heal from their trauma and to start planning for a life free from violence.  Each resident is assigned a primary counselor/advocate.  Counselor/advocates work with residents to develop a specific plan to ensure access to support services needed and to assist residents in acquiring skills to facilitate a transition to more independent living.  Our work is grounded in a strength-based approach.  

Some of the specific services provided include:

 

 

Staff are able to provide services in English, Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole and Portuguese.

  • Individual and group counseling
  • Housing advocacy
  • Medical advocacy
  • Legal and/or immigration advocacy
  • Parenting education
  • Nutrition education
  • Financial education, including budgeting
  • Job readiness assistance
