About Health Imperatives and Healthy Families

Health Imperatives manages Blue Hills Healthy Families, Cape Cod Healthy Families & Early Childbearing Program, and Greater Brockton Healthy FamiliesAll of the Healthy Families Massachusetts sites are funded by the Children's Trust Fund, and each site serves a specific list of cities and towns (click on Locations under the About Us menu to see the current lists).

Healthy Families provides home visiting for first time parents under the age of 21.  Parents are eligible for these services from pregnancy until their child is 3 years old.

Some successes of the Healthy Families model include the following:

  • 66 percent lower rate of child abuse for Healthy Families Massachusetts teen mothers.
  • 83 percent of Healthy Families Massachusetts mothers enrolled in school or graduated, a rate significantly higher than a national study showing only 53 percent of teen mothers graduating.
  • Children in Healthy Families Massachusetts on average were developmentally on target despite national research that shows children of teen parents are at greater risk for developmental delays.

Healthy Families Home Visitors are required to take an intensive 35-hour training program facilitated by the Childrens Trust Fund.  This course prepares them with the skills they need to be successful home visitors to their clients.

In addition to Healthy Families, some of our sites offer additional programs to residents of the towns they serve.  Blue Hills Healthy Families also offers Early Head Start (EHS) and Young Parents Initiative (YPI), and Cape Cod Healthy Families also offers Young Parents Initiative.  For more specific information on these programs, click on the Location of your choice on the menu tab at the top of the page and choose the program you'd like to read about from the dropdown menu.

The "Helpful Links" section on the menu above provides additional resources that may be helpful to parents, including information on pregnancy, parenting, and breastfeeding.
