Types of Abuse IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT IF YOU ARE BEING ABUSED. Typically, domestic abuse falls into one of five categories: Physical, Verbal, Emotional, Sexual, and Financial. PHYSICAL abuse includes: - Pushing
or shoving
- Biting
- Hair
pulling
- Slapping
or hitting
- Kicking
- Choking
or strangling
- Physical
intimidation such as blocking doorways, "getting in your face",
or making threatening motions
EMOTIONAL abuse includes:
- Extreme
jealousy
- Making you feel guilty - Public or private humiliation - Telling you the abuse is your fault - Destroying or breaking things you care about - Isolating you and/or controlling who you see and where you go - Telling you that you are worthless - Threats against the victim or self (threatening to take the children, commit suicide, report you to immigration, etc.)
