WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?
Domestic violence is a pattern of controlling, coercive, abusive behaviors that your spouse, intimate partner, family member, caretaker or companion uses to control you. It can happen regardless of age, race, culture, or socio-economic status. Not all abuse is physical. There are many types of abuse.  There may be early warning signs that will help you identify a potentially abusive relationship if you know what to look for.

Womansplace Crisis Center (WCC) offers a variety of services to survivors of domestic violence. All services are free of charge. The following is a list of services provided by WCC.

EMERGENCY SHELTER: Women and children in flight from violent homes may reside in our confidential, battered women's shelter for up to 90 days. A wide array of counseling and advocacy services assist the residents in obtaining skills and resources necessary to begin a new life. Sheltered children participate in educational, recreational, and counseling activities.

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING: We provide short-term individual counseling at our center, at schools, or community agencies as needed. Bi-lingual counselors (Spanish and Cape Verdean Creole) are also available.

SUPPORT GROUPS: We have support groups both on-site and in the community, e.g. area schools, homeless shelters, and residential programs. Most groups are available in English, Spanish, and Cape Verdean Creole. Please call us for current group listings at 508-588-2045.

LEGAL ADVOCACY:  Womansplace participates in SAFEPLAN. This is a court-based program designed to assist victims of domestic violence with safety planning and obtaining restraining orders. SAFEPLAN advocates stay with clients throughout the court process and help navigate the legal system. In addition, they offer referrals to legal and other community based services.

HOW WOULD OUR LIVES BE DIFFERENT?
" How would your life have been different if there had been a place for you to go when your life was difficult and you felt utterly alone?
.....A place of safety and comfort;
.....A place where you learned to no longer fear your darkness but trust it;
.....A place of women to help you prepare and know when you are ready;
.....A place of understanding and comfort;
.....A place to belong!"
That Place is Womansplace.
