Health Care provides on-site primary care to youth in Department of Youth Services custody in the Southeastern Region. For the past fourteen years we have provided such services to the two Old Colony YMCA Boy's Programs and the Old Colony YMCA Girl's Program in Brockton, as well as the Detention Unit (Howland) and the Secure Treatment Unit (Goss) in Taunton. We have worked successfully with the Department of Youth Services and the Old Colony YMCA Staff to improve the recognition of the diverse health needs of program residents and find constructive solutions to conflicts. Our efforts have resulted in both improved health status among the residents as well as integration of residents' health needs into the overall services of the DYS Program. Services are provided by an RN Director, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and a Health Services Coordinator who provide 24-hour coverage to the above named facilities. Medical services are provided in compliance with staffing levels required by Department of Youth Services through a subcontract with Brockton Neighborhood Health Center. Specific services include: Medical histories, nursing assessments, physical exams, sick calls, referrals for medical specialty and dental care, and patient education.
