Youth Health Careers Connection (YHCC) At Brockton High School Introduction: The YHCC is an after-school program for Brockton High School sophomore students who have an interest in pursuing a career in the healthcare field. The purpose of the program is to introduce students to the wide variety of career opportunities available in healthcare so that they may make more informed decisions about college and their future career. Goal: To introduce students to a wide variety of career opportunities in the healthcare field, while engaging participants in a service learning project. Objectives: The program provides participants with opportunities for: Program Meetings: Participants attend weekly classroom meetings on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2:10-3:30pm in room R232. During program meetings participants: How to Apply: Interested sophomore students must apply for entry into the program by November 1st of their sophomore year. To apply: 1. Download and complete an application or pick one up from Janice Mead in the Health & Wellness Department at the school (office located above the gym) 2. Return your completed application to Janice Mead by November 1st. 3. Once the application is received, the student will be contacted by YHCC program staff to schedule and interview. Students are accepted based on their completed application, interview, passing grades, letter of recommendation, and parental/legal guardian consent to participate. The YHCC is operated by Health Imperatives’ AHEC of Southeastern MA, in collaboration with the Brockton High School Wellness Department and support from the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
