Future Care
The Future Care project is a collaborative endeavor of the Cape & Islands Area Health Education
Center (AHEC) Alliance, and two of its members, the JML Care Center of Falmouth, and its parent
corporation, Cape Cod Healthcare (CCH).
What is the purpose of the Future Care program?
The program purpose is to assist healthcare workforce development through a support service
that provides housing in private homes for students/workers currently pursuing healthcare education
or training.
What are the benefits of the Future Care program?
- The benefit to the healthcare worker/trainee is low-cost, stable housing while
pursuing continuing education that might otherwise be postponed, and ability to save for permanent
housing options. A better-trained workforce that has continuing education options through this
support service will be able to take advantage of career pathway opportunities for advancement,
benefits, and economic self-sufficiency.
- The benefit to the home sponsor is extra income and/or having an additional social link.
- The benefit to the employer is that this service is an incentive to employees
to stay on the job, and to better-educated employees who can pursue career advancement. Having
employees who are able to live and work here also reduces the need for more costly seasonal or
temporary workers that need to be brought in from off-Cape to provide services.
- The benefits to the community are keeping a trained healthcare workforce in the
area, and increasing the numbers of economically self-sufficient residents.
